5 of the biggest equipment rental stories in January

In January, the equipment rental industry witnessed some notable developments and strategic moves. Here is a brief look at just some of the biggest news stories International Rental News covered in January.

Loxam said it is predicting 15% revenue growth in Brazil this year, with the positive outlook fueled by the expanding construction and infrastructure sectors in the country as well as its acquisitions of Motormac Rental and A Geradora last year. 

That would follow a combined revenue for the three companies in 2022 of R$450 million (around US$92 million). Read the full story here. 

Meanwhile, United Rentals made a significant investment in sustainable solutions, adding a solar generator fleet equipped with solar panels with 5.0kW peak solar array and a 45kVA generator propane generator.

United, which developed the generator alongside Hipower, a sister company to Himoinsa within the Yanmar group, said the addition of the EHR Solar Battery Generator is a “game-changer for companies that want to go to the next level of sustainability with higher energy efficiency.” Read more here. 

Avesco Group, a Swiss-based equipment rental firm, announced that it is set to acquire Finnish rental company Vatupassi Törmälä, marking further expansion into the Nordic region. Vincent Albasini, the CEO of Avesco Rent Group, said the acquisition supports both company’s goal to “together become the strongest and most significant operator of the industry in all of Finland.”

The deal includes depots in Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Nurmes, and Oulu and will add Vatupassi’s 70 employees to the 15 Avesco Rent staff in Finland. Read the full story here. 

There was also Finnish expansion for Renta Group, which started the year with a double acquisition, acquiring companies YIT Kalusto in Finland and Danish general renter Jelle-Bo ApS. YIT Kalusto is an in-house company with two depots in Urjala and Veikkola and 67 employees. The company solely provides equipment to YIT Corporation, of which it is a subsidiary. Read more here. 

Generac unveiled the GLT lighting tower series as part of a new brand strategy aimed at elevating brand awareness and enhancing product recognition. The lighting towers range consists of six new models, four diesel-powered units, and two hybrid models that will be launched later this year. Read more here.
