According to Doosan, its new Light Source Compact (LSC) units take up -20% less space when packed for transportation than the average for lighting towers. This means 11 can be fitted on a standard 48 ft (14.6 m) flatbed, and the units have a 1475 lbs (670 kg) shipping weight.

Despite these compact dimensions, the LSC comes with a 30 ft (9.14 m) mast, and is fitted with four 1000 watt rectangular lights. Doosan says these lights - rather than the more common round type - help distribute the light better. As a result, the company says each tower can deliver 460 foot candles (4951 Lux) of light.

Power comes from a 10.5 KW Mitsubishi engine, and Doosan has carried over several key parts from its earlier models to help keep servicing and repairs simple. These include the galvanised mast, winches, outriggers and jacks. The company has also retained the galvanised steel channel that the lighting cord sits in, which is designed to keep it out of harm's way, and prevent it from getting pinched or caught during set up.

Stressing the durability of the unit, Doosan said the LSC could withstand 65 mph (105 km/h) winds, and will run at temperatures as high as 58° C, without shutting down. Before launching the LSC, the company tested it with 500 start/stop cycles, as well as a 2000 hour endurance test. As a result, it backs the unit with a two-year/2000 hour guarantee.

The LSC light towers are currently only available at the 60 Hz electrical frequency. A version for 50 Hz markets is expected to be shown at the March ConExpo exhibition in Las Vegas, US.
