Construction robotics company Origin has raised US$20 million from investors including angel investors from Elon Musk’s Tesla to expand its robot fleet and support customer pilots across international markets.

The funding, co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, will mostly go towards the deployment of the company’s flagship OG-1 robot.

The OG-1 is designed to perform multiple interior construction tasks using interchangeable tools.

Origin said the robot can autonomously apply compound, sand and prime walls to a professional finish, working at heights of up to 14ft (4.3m). Construction crews handle site mapping and material replenishment.

The three-wheeled robot is also designed to work safely alongside construction crews without requiring a separate cordoned-off area thanks to its 360-degree vision.

The company plans large-scale pilots with customers including what it claims are two of the largest drywall finishing contractors in the US (although it did not name the contractors), with additional pilots scheduled in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia.

Founded in early 2025, Origin said it deployed its first robots on New York construction sites within 10 months. It is targeting 150 robots deployed by the end of 2027.

It runs on Origin’s Construction Action Model, which combines a reasoning system that plans and orchestrates complex sub-tasks in the construction workflows, an action policy that enables it to navigate autonomously, and a controller that translates the policy’s actions through precise, feedback-driven control of the robot.

Origin said the funding raised will also allow it to explore expansion into additional interior trades, including taping, drywall installation, drilling and conduit installation, using the same hardware platform.

“Every customer we work with has more demand and project backlogs than their teams can deliver,” said Yogesh Ghaturle, co-founder and chief executive of Origin. “They’re leaving revenue on the table because they don’t have enough skilled people, and demand is only growing.”

Other investors include Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21, alongside angel investors from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla. Zacua Ventures founding partner Vivin Hegde has joined Origin’s board.
