Asset tracking specialist Geoforce has launched a cellular-based, “cost-effective” tracking device, the GT1c, to complement its satellite devices.

The GT1c will operate on AT&T’s phone network in the US and is part of Geoforce’s recently announced partnership with AT&T Business to provide “carrier-supported industrial asset tracking”.

The device has been designed for use in industrial applications, and including non-powered assets, and has been piloted with Black Diamond Equipment Rental, a Pennsylvania-based rental company operating in heavy construction and oil and gas.

Geoforce said the pilot with Black Diamond “demonstrated that expanding tracking across mid-tier and small assets is both practical and operationally impactful.”

It said the rental firm expanded its tracked inventory by 26% across smaller and mid-size construction and oil and gas equipment.

The device is purpose-built for non-powered assets and it has a battery life of up to 10 years, delivering, said Geoforce, low total cost of ownership (TCO) and near-zero maintenance.

Rugged, reinforced design

James MacLean III, CEO of Geoforce, said; “It’s fully encapsulated design, rugged reinforced bezel, and intrinsic safety certification ensures it can survive in hazardous, heavy-vibration environments and extreme temperature ranges, and it’s priced so our customers can afford to track almost every asset class.”

The GT1c feeds location into Geoforce’s asset data platform, providing visibility of location, movement, and utilization of industrial assets and equipment. Other benefits include:

MacLean added; “The GT1c will enable our channel partners and resellers to capture market share and grow existing customer accounts by providing a solution to track more asset classes and improve operational efficiency.”

Cameron Coursey, VP of Connected Solutions at AT&T, said; “Geoforce’s new GT1c is a strong example of how AT&T’s global cellular network enables the next generation of industrial IoT.

“With the scale, reliability, and economics required for enterprise deployments, our network is purpose‑built to support solutions like the GT1c that help businesses track more assets, operate more efficiently, and unlock greater value across their operations.”

Geoforce, which is based in Dallas, Texas, has more than 300,000 assets tracked in 110 countries with more than 1,700 customers. It has an R&D facility in Bozeman, Montana, and sales and support offices throughout the US, Brazil, Australia and Canada.
