UK-based rental company Speedy Hire has invested £10 million (€11 million) in new equipment and vehicles for its power generation business.

Speedy’s investment is complemented by the company’s decision to renew its fuel tanker fleet

This investment to enhance its power and fuel management capability is part of a broader upgrade programme to provide customers with the latest fuel-efficient equipment. It was said to comprise more than 250 generators, more than 350 on-site fuel tanks and 15 fuel tankers.

The generators, which have node sizes ranging from 20kVA up to 500kVA, are powered by Perkins engines and they were primarily manufactured by Pramac and FG Wilson.

Lisa Blake, specialist services director at Speedy, said, “The investment enables our customers to benefit from the latest state-of-the-art power generation equipment and reduces the average age of our hire fleet. Importantly, it will also ensure that our customers benefit from products that comply with the latest Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) emissions standard.”

In addition, all of Speedy’s multi-service centres are now equipped with fuel polishers that clean the fuel with which the generators are supplied.

Mark Tomlin, project manager at Speedy, said, “Since the installation of our first fuel polisher in Erith, we have experienced a 75% reduction in fuel-related breakdowns. This enables us to reduce power downtime for customers and improve the efficiency of our engineering team, by focusing on proactive servicing rather than reacting to breakdowns.”

Once cleaned, the fuel can be delivered in the new fleet of IBC fuel tanks, which, like the generators, are available to hire from Speedy power locations across the UK. These range from a 1,000-litre capacity to a 15,000-litre capacity tank.

Speedy said its power and fuel management capability is backed up by a technical sales support team and a team of engineers.
