Italian exports of construction machinery in 2015 were worth more than €2.5 billion – an increase of 4.9% compared to 2014, according to the Samoter Outlook.

The figures have been provided by Italian trade show Samoter in collaboration with market analysis company Prometeia and Unacea, the Association of Italian Construction Machinery Builders.

The latest international trade report also indicated growth in imports, generated by the recovery on the domestic market, up on an annual basis by 17.2%. This was worth more than €650 million. The balance of trade at +1.1% was said to have remained in the black by over €1.8 billion.

The Samoter Outlook said that exports of road machinery were up 27.5%, tower cranes increased by 14%, earthmoving machines rose by 6.3%, and drilling machinery was up 6.2%.

It said, however, that there was a continued, albeit limited fall in exports of concrete of 2.2%, and crushing and screening equipment fell by 2%.

Western European countries continued to be the main destination for Italian exports in this sector, said the report.

It added that there had also been an increase in deliveries to African, Asian and North American markets.

On the other hand, exports to Russia fell dramatically – a decrease of 61.7% – with setbacks also in the Middle East – down 6% – as a result of the international instability affecting both areas.

The 30th edition of Samoter will take place in Verona, Italy from 22 to 25 February, 2017.
