Imer and Hoogwerker Centrum develop next-gen spiders

Italian manufacturer Imer Access is working with Netherlands distribution partner Hoogwerker Centrum on the development of its next generation of spider lifts, including a new 27 metre model, improved controls and additional lifting capabilities.

The companies, which have worked together since 2019, are combining Imer’s engineering expertise with Hoogwerker Centrum’s knowledge of the European spider lift market to develop products based on customer feedback.

The collaboration reflects Imer’s growing focus on spider lifts in recent years, with the manufacturer expanding its tracked platform range following the introduction of the IM R 30 DT to the Dutch market at the APEX exhibition.

Alongside the new 27m model, intended for applications requiring greater working heights and load capacities, Imer is developing an interchangeable winch for material handling and a lifting hook to broaden the applications of its spider lifts.

Further developments include outrigger extensions for selected 18m PRO models and 20m platforms, designed for specialised applications such as working on steep slopes and, in certain configurations, operating directly from a trailer.

Simplifying operation

Among the latest developments is a new remote control with a larger colour display, designed to be interchangeable between models.

Imer has also been standardising hydraulic and emergency systems to simplify servicing, alongside introducing common sensors, improved wiring and an automatic return-to-home function.

According to Imer, the changes reflect “a development approach focused not only on performance, but also on simplifying the user experience and reducing complexity for operators, technicians and rental companies.”

The developments highlight Hoogwerker Centrum’s role in shaping future products, with practical experience and customer feedback helping guide Imer’s research and development activities.

The product development programme follows the establishment of Imer Benelux in 2025, strengthening the manufacturer’s direct relationship with customers and its existing distribution and service network.

Imer said the operation had delivered encouraging results during its first year, despite challenging market conditions.

The closer relationship has also helped expand sales of Imer’s scissor lifts, particularly in the rental sector, resulting in the first direct sales of these machines to rental companies.

After-sales support remains a priority, with Hoogwerker Service Centrum providing local technical assistance and helping maintain communication between customers and the manufacturer.

Looking ahead, Imer said its objective was to provide “increasingly flexible equipment capable of adapting to different operating conditions and meeting the demands of a market seeking performance, versatility and cost optimisation.”
