Energyst wins major BASF rental contract

29 April 2010

Power and temperature rental company Energyst has won a three year contract to provide temporary power and cooling equipment at BASF plants at Antwerp, Belgium and Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Energyst has been renting equipment to BASF's Antwerp facility since 2005 but the addition of the Ludwigshafen site will "dramatically increase the scale of supply", said the rental company.

Ludwigshafen is the largest of BASF's 385 production sites worldwide and home to its corporate headquarters. The contract includes the possibility of a two-year extension.

As part of the contract Energyst has made some specific investments in water-cooled chillers. The chillers are used to increase efficiencies in BASF's chemical processes.

Since the contract was signed the first 100 kW heatpump has been delivered to Ludwigshafen and Energyst's engineers have started to work on site.

The Energyst team was led by Frank de Koning, regional general manager, who said; "A bid process at this level requires a lot of work and cannot be done half-heartedly, but I knew that with the team we have in Energyst I would never lack support. With the quality and spirit of the people of Energyst we can build a long lasting and sustainable cooperation".

Mr de Koning said the BASF contract would bring benefits to Energyst's other customers; "Energyst is committed to differentiating itself from the competition with a solutions approach. Perhaps BASF has been our most demanding customer to date, enabling us to increase our skills; skills which we can apply to other complex process industries."

BASF is a petrochemicals company with around 105000 employees and close to 385 production sites worldwide serving customers. Energyst is the pan-European power generation and temperature control rental company formed by Caterpillar and 10 of its dealers in Europe.
