The attachment, which joins the company’s existing MT9, MT12 and MT16 mircrotrenchers, has been designed to lower costs while increasing productivity.

It incorporates a hydraulic plunge for variable depth control and can cut clean trenches measuring from 1.5 to 3.0 inches (76.2 mm) wide, and up to 26in (660.4mm) in depth.

According to the manufacturer, this is the widest cut offered by any microtrencher currently on the market and at 26in (66cm) deep, the trenches are suitable for the installation of a 2-inch fiber-optic or power cable with 2ft (0.6m) of ground cover.

The MT26 is part of a complete system that comprises the Ditch Witch RT80 ride-on trencher and HX75 vacuum excavator.

The model removes spoils from the trench as it cuts along the road, producing “minimal disruption to the surrounding infrastructure”. This helps contractors save time and lower the cost of restoring or cleaning up the jobsite.

Steve Seabolt, product marketing manager at Ditch Witch HD tractors, said, “Microtrenching is quickly growing in popularity among power and fiber optic installation contractors because it is the least invasive open-cut solution.”

“The MT26 is designed to help operators create narrow trenches that go deeper and wider than ever before, which helps them increase productivity and reduce their jobsite cost-per-foot.”

The attachment can be fitted with a variety of blades that can be easily changed with standard hand tools, making it well suited to renters.

It is also compatible with 4-, 5- and 6-inch (10.16 cm, 12.7 cm and15.24 cm) vacuum excavator hoses, so that contractors can use it with their preferred vacuum excavator.
