United Rentals has been named on the Wall Street Journal 250 Best-Managed Companies list.

The ranking, published annually since 2017, evaluates the effectiveness of US companies based on a methodology developed by the Drucker Institute at Claremont Graduate University.

It reviews performance across key business drivers through a number of metrics, including customer satisfaction, employee engagement and development, innovation, social responsibility and financial strength.

To determine the rankings, the Drucker Institute evaluated US publicly traded companies on 35 corporate performance indicators using data inputs from third-party providers.

The research included a new metric of a “digital positioning score,” which looked at a company’s activity, as compared to industry peers, across online search, website traffic, social media and its apps.

Matthew Flannery, president and chief executive officer, United Rentals, said, “This recognition as an industry leader is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team to be the best rental partner for our customers.

“We have a relentless commitment to helping our customers safely build a better and stronger future, while also providing long-term value for all of our stakeholders.”

The recognition is the latest in a series of awards for United Rentals’ management. In December, the company received the 2024 HIRE Vets Medallion Platinum Award and 2025 Military Friendly Employer Gold in recognition of  its efforts to recruit, employ and retain veterans in the US.

It was also named as one of the world’s best companies as part of the TIME World’s Best Companies 2023 list.
