Sandvik to acquire Kwatani

Sandvik Group has announced that is to acquire South African feeder and screener manufacturer Kwatani, for an undisclosed amount.

Kwatani's facilities in South Africa Kwatani is a leading OEM of custom-engineered vibrating equipment.

Johannesburg-based Kwatani, which last year recorded revenues of roughly SEK175 million (US$21 million), manufacturers a range of equipment including fine separators, drives and services and large multi slope screens.

According to Sandvik, the deal will expand its product range and “complement the existing aftermarket product and services portfolio” it offers.

Stefan Widing, President and CEO of Sandvik, said: “I am pleased that we are continuing to execute on our strategy to grow through acquisitions and at the same time strengthening our position in rock processing.”

Described as a “major milestone for the South African engineering industry”, the collaborative deal falls within the South African government’s industrialization strategy and will see the Kwatani brand sold through Sandvik’s global distribution network.

Kim Schoepflin, CEO of Kwatani, said: “Known for our brand promise of being engineered for tonnage, we will continue to use the Kwatani brand across Africa and products sold internationally will be sold through the Sandvik sales channels under the Kwatani product name.”

Kim added: “What is most significant and exciting for the South African economy is that our facility is set to become the global engineering and manufacturing base for vibrating screens and feeders for both local and international customers.”

Kwatani will be reported in Stationary Crushing and Screening, a division in Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions. Kwatani is the first company to join the division since it was established earlier this year.
