Riwal sells first full electric boom lift

16 May 2016

Swiss rental company Airnace has invested in a 28m full-electric aerial work platform (AWP) from Riwal - the first specially converted full-electric unit the company has sold.

Boasting reduced noise and no emissions, Riwal said the new machine, which it converted from a JLG model, would be used for a variety of work both inside and outside, such as maintenance on bridges or work in city centres.

Riwal said the JLG-860SJ had been converted from diesel to a full electric boom lift by Riwal’s technical team. While the machine was already available to customers using Riwal’s rental fleet, it is the first time that Riwal has sold a full-electric 28m boom lift into the market.

With a noise level below 70Dba and no carbon emissions, to boom lift is battery powered and has a 400v integrated battery charger. The AWP can be used both indoors and outdoors while the modifications do not affect the working envelope of the machine. The machine was delivered in the corporate colours of Airnace.

Airnace general manager Olivier Mettan said, “This machine is a great solution for us to work in industrial areas, power plants and tunnels without needing any particulate filters.

“Thanks to the reduced noise level and zero emissions, we can now easily meet local restrictions. In addition we experienced a great cooperation with Riwal who followed through on their timely delivery promise and provided a great working machine.”

And Riwal CEO Norty Turner said, “The modifications we made to convert the diesel JLG-860SJ to an electric machine is an excellent example of how we translate our vision of delivering the best customer experience in the industry into practice.

"At the same time this aerial work platform is a sustainable alternative to diesel powered machines while maintaining all of its features.”
