Ritchie Bros enjoys largest ever UK sale

30 July 2014

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers recently held its largest-even UK auction at Donington Park on July 15, 2014.

The company said the industrial auction set new site records for total number of registered bidders, with more than 800 bidders.

The auction also attracted nearly 500 online bidders. More than 80 sellers sold more than 1,280 lots. Bids were made in person at the Donington Park site, online in real time via the Ritchie Bros website and by proxy.

“An increase in industry activity in the UK has resulted in a vibrant balance between machinery supply and demand,” said Rupert Craven, UK & Ireland sales director, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers.

“Large construction and plant rental businesses are renewing their fleets and need an efficient, reliable way to turn used items into cash.

"Meanwhile, our buying customers, in particular those involved in earthmoving and access, need quality equipment they can put to work right away. For this auction, we saw participation from hundreds of bidders from more than 60 countries, attracted by the large variety of late model equipment available.”

For the second time at the Donington Park auction site, smaller items such as attachments, generator sets and consumer goods were sold in an online timed auction. “Our timed auction system again proved its value to our customers,” said Mr. Craven.

“It’s not only easier and more convenient for bidders, but it has also led to better results for our sellers.”

The next Ritchie Bros. auction at Donington Park takes place on September 23, 2014.
