New 43m Sinoboom focuses on wide envelope for rental

Sinoboom is expanding its high-reach articulated boom range with the 43.6 m working height AB42RJ Plus, designed to provide a wide working envelope, with rental companies in mind.

It provides up to 23 m working horizontal working envelope (depending on platform load), substantial up-and-over capability, and a 15.1m below-ground reach for applications including bridges and quaysides.

The need to reposition the machine is minimised thanks to 165° horizontally rotating jib (90° to the left, 75° to the right), 180° platform rotation and continuous 360° turntable rotation.

Three loading capacities of 454 kg, 340 kg and 250 kg are on offer, allowing for three occupants plus tools in the highest capacity.

Useful capacity is retained across a substantial part of the working envelope, said the company. 454 kg can be carried at 13 m outreach and 41 m platform height, while different load modes allow for balancing of capacity against reach, according to the application.

“For rental companies, performance in the 40 m-plus articulated boom category is about much more than maximum working height,” said Sinoboom.

“A machine must offer the working envelope to tackle a wide variety of applications, sufficient platform capacity for people and tools, on-site manoeuvrability and practical transportation between jobs. Increasingly, fleet owners are considering how one machine can respond to different power requirements as customers move between conventional jobsites, urban environments and emissions-sensitive applications.”

The machine offers a combination of 4WD and 4WS, 40% gradeability, foam-filled RT tyres, and an X-type expandable chassis.

With axles retracted, width is only 2.49 m, enabling easy transportation. In working configuration, the expanded chassis provides the stability to support the machine’s full working envelope, while the 4WS enables manoeuvrability on congested jobsites.

Three power options

Another major focus of the AB42RJ Plus development was the three powers options: diesel, full electric and full electric with a removable range extender.

The diesel variant features a Stage V Deutz engine, conventionally suited to demanding long-term outdoor and rough-terrain applications.

The full electric variant is powered by a 76 kWh lithium battery system, powering around two days’ operating autonomy and well-suited to noise- and emissions-critical scenarios.

Where charging of electric machines is problematic, the Sinoboom Range Extender adds further operational flexibility, enabling prolonged quiet autonomy without relying on access to mains power.

Transportation has been optimised with local and international logistics considered. The AB42RJ Plus HD is designed for the jib to sit alongside the machine, for an overall stowed length of 11. m, width of 2.49 m and height of 2.83 m. Crucially, these dimensions can also be accommodated in a 40HQ container for international logistics, and on a 3-axle truck for local transportation.

The AB42RJ Plus HD also forms part of Sinoboom’s wider modular product strategy.

Built around rental

Key structures and components are shared with the TB42RJ Plus telescopic boom, including elements of the chassis, platform, controls and hydraulic architecture, while the diesel and electric articulated versions themselves share major structures and common components.

The machine is also equipped with Sinoboom’s large-format SmartHub display, bringing fault information, calibration and speed adjustment together on one interface without requiring an additional handheld diagnostic tool.

Safety architecture includes a safety-rated controller, dual-channel sensors and secondary guarding as standard.

Sinoboom added, “The 40 m-plus articulated boom category is becoming increasingly competitive, with a focus not only on maximum height but on the combination of reach, capacity, power choice, transportability and jobsite efficiency.”

On the subject of the AB42RJ Plus HD, the company added, “For rental companies, that means one high-reach articulated boom concept designed to address a wider variety of applications – from construction and industrial maintenance to infrastructure, urban projects and jobsites where noise and emissions increasingly influence equipment selection.”
