Australia-based equipment rental company Kennards Hire has opened a new, purpose-built branch in Craigieburn, Victoria, marking its 42nd site in the state and continuing its expansion across Melbourne’s growing northern suburbs.

The 3,000m² site is the company’s second purpose-built location in Victoria and follows the Ballarat branch that it opened in 2023.

Kennards Hire said the branch is designed to maximise customer convenience with a side-entry counter to streamline equipment pick-ups and drop-offs.

It will offer a wide range of hire equipment, from access and earthmoving gear to general construction tools and landscaping equipment, tailored to the needs of local contractors, businesses and DIY customers.

James McMillan has been appointed as branch manager and will lead a five-person team.

“I’ve always aspired to be the kind of leader who supports their team and brings out the best in them, just like the great mentors I’ve been lucky to learn from,” said McMillan.

The Craigieburn branch reports to area manager Scott Rimmer, who began his career at Kennards Hire at the age of 18 and now oversees seven branches across northern Melbourne.

“The culture here is real,” said Rimmer. “It’s why I came back, and why I’ll probably retire here.”

The company said that in addition to serving the equipment needs of customers across Craigieburn, Campbellfield and surrounding areas, the new branch is helping relieve pressure on the company’s Airport West and Thomastown locations.

“Craigieburn is a key part of our growth strategy. We’re not just keeping up with demand, we’re getting ahead of it,” added Rimmer. “This branch has everything our customers have asked for—more space, better layout and amenities that make the experience easier for everyone.”
