The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has restructured its International Mast Climbing Work Platform (MCWP) Committee with a renewed focus on safety.

The IPAF International MCWP Committee now comprises the UK & Ireland MCWP Work Group (formerly the UK & Ireland MCWP Committee) and the MCWP Training Work Group. Other local and topic-specific work groups will join the committee as and when they are formed.

Heading up the new committee is Kevin O’Shea, director of safety and training, Hydro Mobile (Canada), and chair of the IPAF International MCWP Committee. Vice-chair Adrian Bolton, construction manager, Alimak Hek (UK) and vice-chair Steven McEwan of Scot-Train join him.

Darren Brady, operations director, Apollo Cradles, takes up the role of chair of the IPAF UK & Ireland MCWP Work Group and is vice-chair of the IPAF International MCWP Committee.

The International MCWP Committee now aims to encourage the MCWP industry to report accidents at the IPAF accident database. Its other aims include developing case studies that highlight the safe and effective use of MCWPs, delivering presentations on the same at the IPAF Summit, developing the MCWP mini-site, and reviewing the MCWP training manual.
