Aggreko wins $180m Bangladesh contract

Aggreko has won a US$180 million contract to supply a 150 MW gas-fired power plant - its largest yet - for the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

The three year contract is required because of the breakdown of a large gas turbine in Bangladesh. Aggreko said the gas-fired plant will allow BPDB to minimise disruption while new, permanent power generation facilities are built.

Aggreko already has 240 MW of temporary power installed in the country, including the commissioning in August this year of a 200 MW diesel-powered installation. When the new gas-fired plant is installed Aggreko will be supplying 390 MW of power in Bangladesh.

Rupert Soames, Aggreko's chief executive, said; "We are delighted that BPDB has shown its continued confidence in the ability of Aggreko to deliver reliable power in very short timescales.

"At 150 MW, this plant will be Aggreko's largest gas-powered contract to date, and underlines the importance to our future of this new product line. The use of gas as a fuel will also significantly reduce the cost of this temporary power for BPDB."
