We won’t stand still, says Makita

26 March 2015

Makita chairman Masahiko Goto has not ruled out moves into new markets as the company enters its second century.

Now best known as a global power tool manufacturer, Makita was formed in 1915 and this year will feature celebrations worldwide to mark the first 100 years.

Mr Goto said he recognised global political and economic fluctuations, but he encourages the use of expertise within the company to expand into fresh markets, meet customer expectations and constantly consider the future of the Makita brand.

Originally a producer of electric motors, the company did not make its first power tool, a planer, until almost 60 years ago.

The company said other milestones from its history include the world’s first rechargeable battery-powered drill, the first NiCad battery-powered drill, and launch of the Makita pneumatic air-nailer and compressor.

Today, Makita makes more than 700 different products and has a sales and distribution network covering 150 countries.

Company president Shiro Hori said “constant effort and steady progress” will be the company’s watchwords as it looks to the next 100 years.

He urged every member of staff to continually develop the company into the global top supplier of power, pneumatic, landscaping and gardening tools. He also encouraged them and to review products in operation and to understand the needs of end users.
