The US equipment rental market is starting to show signs of recovery although significant growth will only occur in 2012, reports the American Rental Association’s latest market study from forecasting firm IHS Global Insight.

The rental industry reacted responsibly to the crisis last year, said Gérard Déprez, president of the European Rental Association (ERA) and chief executive officer of Loxam, but he said that recovery would only be visible in companies’ 2011 accounts.

The new European Rental Association (ERA) board was voted in during the Prague Convention. New members are Arne Bugge (Norwegian Rental Association), Marzia Giusto (Nacanco) and Vesa Koivula (Cramo).

Netherlands power renter Bredenoord won the small rental company of the year award and Ramirent the large company award at the 2010 European Rental Awards, announced at a special dinner in Prague on 26 May during the European Rental Association’s annual convention.

She was appointed at the association’s annual meeting in Bologna in March and will hold the post for two years. Assonolo is the rental organisation within Assodimi, the broader Italian rental and dealer association.

The Brazilian equipment rental association ALEC is making a big promotional effort by sending an updated ALEC rental guide to 10000 contractors in the country.

The Global Rental Alliance held its eighth annual meeting last month during the recent Rental Show in Orlando, Florida. The purpose of the alliance is to increase the profile of equipment rental worldwide and build global understanding.

Bernard Pointet, the ex-Lev and Haulotte rental executive, has been appointed president of DLR, the French association for construction equipment rental companies and distributors. He succeeds Michael Gable, who has been president since 2004.

The Brazilian equipment rental association ALEC has chosen Mr Durval Gasparetti Cunha as its new president. Mr Gasparetti, who runs Rental Leasing Servy e Comércio Ltda (Rental Servy) business in Sao Paulo, will hold the post for two years. Mr Gasparetti takes over from previous president, Expedito Eloel Arena.

The third European Rental Awards will be held on 26 May 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic, during the European Rental Association’s annual convention.
