Amey takes full ownership of defence equipment contract

UK contractror Amey has acquired full ownership of the AmeyBriggs joint venture that supplies equipment and expertise to the UK’s ministry of defence (MOD) under a seven year contract valued at £240 million and which continues until 2027. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Under the MITER contract, AmeyBriggs maintains and manages the MOD fleet of construction and materials handling equipment, and other equipment, totalling more than 4,000 assets. The business operates out of 20 MOD facilities in the UK and employs around 200 people.

Amey said the deal to take full ownership reflected its ambition to broaden its services and capabilities in the defence sector.

Phil Crick, managing director of AmeyBriggs said; “This move is incredibly positive for both Amey and AmeyBriggs. Our growth strategy aligns with Amey’s ambitions to become a leading provider of defence infrastructure and equipment. We want to thank Briggs for their support and look forward to the future with Amey.”

Amey Chief Executive Officer, Andy Milner, added; “We are delighted to be able to further consolidate Amey’s breadth of capability and build on our heritage in the defence sector...This transfer provides significant growth potential for our business and brings new capabilities and resources to our wider defence offering.”

The group managing director of Briggs Group, Peter Jones, said the transaction leaves the MITER contract “in good hands. We combined our skills...back in 2020 and the successful delivery of that is a testament to the people involved. I wish the team well with the ongoing activity under Amey Defence Equipment.

“Around 200 employees and supply chain members make up the AmeyBriggs contract and these people will bring a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to the wider Amey Group.”
