JLG Industries will cease manufacturing its rear-pivot steer telehandler models in 2010. The handlers, previously sold under the Gradall brand, were added to JLG's range in 1999 when it acquired the Gradall business.

JCB's new Loadall 515-40 Miniscopic telehandler is just 1.8 m high, but it is, said Rob White JCB's product marketing manager, "Power to weight the strongest telehandler JCB makes." The Minscopic weighs 3480 kg (7672 lb) and can lift 1.5 t at full height of over 4m (13 ft 3 in).

Canadian rental house, Manulift, has imported a new telehandler from Italian manufacturer Merlo.

JLG has unveiled the G10-43A, a new 4545 kg (10000 lb) capacity telehandler model.

Manulift, a Canadian importer of Merlo telehandlers, has inked an exclusive deal with Mazergroup to distribute Merlo products in Manitoba, Canada.

From compact equipment specialist Ausa comes the 2700 kg capacity, 6.1 m lift height Tauralift T 276 H. The new, 5000 kg machine joins the 2000 kg capacity, 4 m lift height T 204 model, launched last year to establish the Spanish company's telescopic handler line.

JLG Industries is to rebrand its rear-pivot steer Gradall telehandlers under the JLG name by the end of the year. The company said the rebranding represented the completion of a plan begun in 2006 when JLG sold the Gradall excavators to the Alamo Group.

Bobcat has completed a 24 month programme to redesign its entire telehandler range comprising 12 models with maximum lifting heights of 5.2 to 17.4 m.

Genie's GTH-4017 SX telehandler, with 17.9 m of maximum height and lift capacity of 4000 kg, is the latest of its special ‘rental' models. Lifting performance also includes 700 kg of capacity at maximum forward reach of 13.3 m.

Manufacturers have launched bigger; more powerful, more compact; and more multi-functional machines, as well as pushed into new geographic markets. Patrick Hill reports on latest developments.

Manitou will launch into the US its 16 t capacity, 10 m lift height MHT 10160 telescopic handler at Conexpo in Las Vegas this March. The French company said the machine, manufactured in Italy, is the largest rough-terrain telehandler on the market.

Caterpillar is releasing its 2.5 t lift capacity, super compact telehandler, the TH 255, which is a version of JLG's G5-18A (see lead story). The TH 255 debuted in the US at the World of Concrete Show last month and will launch in Europe at Italy's Samoter in March. The handler is made for Cat by JLG through its global telehandler manufacturing alliance.

The North American market has certainly attracted European manufacturers. For example, Case has launched the 3.3 t lift capacity, 12.8 m lift height TX742; the 3.6 t, 12.8 m heightTX842; and the 4.1 t, 13.7 m TX945 models. The company said it anticipates the 3.6 t model will be the most popular in that market.

Komatsu Utility Europe has created a dedicated production line for telehandlers at its Este facility in northern Italy and said it hoped the increased production capacity would allow it to manufacture over 1000 units next year.

Italian telehandler manufacturer Dieci has established a German subsidiary, Dieci Deutschland, located in Geiren, north of Frankfurt.

Italian manufacturer Faresin Handlers has revealed the prototype for two rotating boom models, the Storm 18.45 and 15.45. The machines, which weigh 14500 kg, have a maximum lift capacity of 4.5 t and can lift 3 t to their maximum lifting heights of 18 m and 15 m.

Manitou has launched new 4 t telehandlers, and made them available in different versions for different buyers, including rental. Patrick Hill reports.
