Aktio pushes for greener jobsites with EV deployment

Japan-based rental company Aktio Co has supplied electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging stations to a construction site in Tokyo, where full-scale use of the equipment has been underway since the start of 2025.

The company said the initiative forms part of the contractor’s efforts to reduce emissions and promote carbon neutrality on site.

Aktio said it proposed and delivered a complete EV solution, including vehicles for both internal and external site transport, along with the necessary charging infrastructure.

It supplied three Mitsubishi eK X EVs for use outside the site and one Mitsubishi Minicab EV for internal movement. The use of EVs is intended to reduce engine noise and eliminate exhaust emissions, contributing to a quieter and cleaner working environment.

Charging stations were also installed to support daily operational use of the vehicles.

According to Aktio, the delivery aligns with its broader environmental strategy, which includes offering low-emission rental options and using biodiesel fuel at its own facilities. The company is exploring multiple ways to support the construction sector in reducing its carbon footprint.

Alongside equipment rental, Aktio also promotes a service model it refers to as “Rensalting”, a combination of “rental” and “consulting.” The approach, it said, goes beyond the traditional role of rental providers by offering customers guidance on how to choose and operate equipment effectively.

The company said this is relevant in the industry as machinery is becoming increasingly complex.

The Rensalting concept was introduced by Aktio’s chairman, Mitsuo Konuma, and is a registered trademark of the company.
