VIDEO: Xylem aims for global pump rental business

By Murray Pollok13 April 2016

Xylem wants to replicate worldwide the successful rental model adopted by its US pump rental business, Godwin.

Interviewed on video by IRN at Bauma (click on the image to view the interview), Patrick Tantum, senior business development manager at Xylem’s dewatering growth centre, said the company was “journeying towards that, because it provides a highly efficient service for our customers. That’s really where we want to drive it to.”

The current investment priorities in the rental fleet are in Europe and Africa – where the company has opened five rental hubs – but Mr Tantum said there were longer term opportunities in Asia.

“We have plans for Asia, but we can’t divulge them now. We have been investing heavily in Europe, and we see a lot of potential in emerging markets, especially with the CapEx to OpEx shift, which is really driving the success of rental for us.”

He said India and China were “definitely” part of the rental strategy; “That’s part of our ongoing strategy for the next five years – watch this space and you’ll see Xylem develop in those areas.”

In Europe and elsewhere Xylem is targeting end user customers with its rental services and in certain cases partnering with general rental companies on a pump re-rental basis.

The company used the Bauma show to showcase a number of its new products, including the Ready 4 L submersible pump and the 2190 Flygt submersible drainage pump with a 25 kW motor.

It also previewed the CD150 pump, which will be launched in the summer. Mr Tantum said the CD150 has been developed with a particular focus on low cost of ownership.
