Turkish rental owner creates online marketplace

The founder and owner of Turkish rental company Dekas Makina has created an online rental marketplace for the domestic market.

Makina Kolay, which translates as ‘Easy Machine’, started trading in November and is the work of Ataman Seferoğlu, the Managing Director and founder of Dekas Makina. Dekas rents aerial platforms from two locations in Istanbul.

Seferoğlu, who has been working in the rental sector for almost 10 years, told IRN that the online marketplace had just started, but he hoped that the site would be transacting around 6000 orders a year in the medium-term.

“I see enormous potential as owners and machines are concentrated in Western Turkey. However, projects are all over the country, and this is where we come in and offer our services”, said Seferoğlu.

He says his contacts in the industry – 30,000 customers and as many as 5,000 rental companies in Turkey – would help the online marketplace get off the ground.

Seferoğlu said the online site would feature a wide range of construction and industrial machinery, and not just aerial platforms; “We have more than 500 construction machinery segments on our system and we will service all of Turkey.”

The website will allow contractors to source requests for quotations from multiple rental suppliers.

Seferoğlu thinks that large construction projects in Turkey will help drive demand for rental services; “The single largest project at this moment is Akkuyu Nuclear Station in Mersin. However, this was not always so. We had many large projects in recent years, such as the Star Refinery, the third Airport, Northern Marmara Highway and Çanakkale Bridge.

“We have an election next year, at the latest in the first half of the year, and I expect many large projects will be announced and started in late 2023 and 2024.”

There is a growing number of online rental sites operating in the equipment rental sector, including the recently launched Smart Rental in Germany. Others include the EasyHire brand, Klarx, Klickrent, GetMyEquipment and BigRentz.
