Japan-based pump manufacturer Tsurumi has announced that it is investing €70 million in a new plant at its headquarters in Kyoto, Japan.

Tsurumi said the the plant will initially focus on the production of electric motors, adding to the 110,000 motors it manufactures every year.

The focus is on the drives for its GPN series, Tsurumi said. “For this and other series, cast parts are already being produced that were previously purchased.”

According to the company, the opening of the plant is a direct response to the changes in global supply chains characterised by fluctuations in parts availability and costs following the pandemic.

It also highlighted control over the manufacturing process and process quality as other factors.

The plant is expected to be operational by the autumn of 2024 and will be the third Tsurumi has opened in its native Japan, while it also has plants in China, Taiwan and Vietnam.
