Iveco Group, the Italian commercial vehicle and engine manufacturer which controls such companies as Iveco, Iveco Bus, FPT Industrial, IDV and Heuliez, is to be purchased by India’s Tata Motors.

The purchase will create what is described as ‘a global player in commercial vehicles’.

According to details in the related information, the combined company will bring together complementary capabilities, global reach and a shared strategic vision to drive long-term growth and unlock significant value.

While Tata Motors is well known for its automotive division, the company also produces a broad range of trucks and buses.

According to additional details, the completion of the deal is conditional on the separation of Iveco’s defence business.

In an earlier, separate release, Iveco announced the signing of a ‘definitive agreement’ covering the sale of its defence business (IDV and Astra brands) to Leonardo SpA.

The value of the Tata deal to buy Iveco was put at approx. €3.8 billion. The value of the defence division buyout was said to be €1.7 billion.
