Sunbelt acquires film lighting specialist

Sunbelt Rentals UK has acquired Manchester-based PKE Lighting, further expanding its presence in the film and television industry.

PKE, which specialises in lighting equipment, transport services and power, has multiple branches across the UK and is described by Sunbelt as being “well positioned for growth within the UK film market”.

Sunbelt’s purchase of PKE Lighting comes just months after the acquisition another British film and television industry specialist.

In May 2022 it announced the acquisition of camera, lens and grip rental firm Movietech, which joined its Canada-based film product sector subsidiary William F. White International - bought by parent company Ashtead Group in 2019.

Andy Wright, Sunbelt Rentals UK CEO, said, “These are exciting times for all of us as we expand our footprint in the UK TV and Film market. The combined knowledge and expertise of PKE, Movietech and William F. White International (WFW) will be a true differentiator for us and our film and television clients.”

As part of Sunbelt’s growth plan for the UK, the months ahead will see PKE Lighting - which will retain its existing management team - work closely Movietech and WFW to expand its rental offering.
