Speedy Hire in the UK is offering a portable CCTV surveillance tower for rental under a partnership with Camwatch, Europe's largest CCTV monitoring company. The tower offers customers round-the-clock security without the need to have security personnel on site.

Speedy said the tower, which comprises a 6 m high mast with an uninterruptible power supply and continuous digital video recorder, will be ideal for use on construction sites, rail projects or at road-works.

The tower is linked to Camwatch's control centre in Sheffield. When sensors on the tower detect movement in the area, staff are alerted at the control centre who can notify the police or make an announcement using an in-built public address system.

Paul Mills, Speedy's business development manager, said; "Equipment theft is estimated to cost the UK over £1 billion every year and site security continues to make headlines...We are excited about this innovative product as we can now offer a system to our customers which will significantly increase site security."

Meanwhile, Speedy has announced that it has been awarded a preferred supplier agreement with the Environment Agency. The Agency is the public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales and has an annual budget of £1 billion. It is the first time the Agency has signed a national rental agreement.
