The Russian equipment rental market grew by 18% in 2013 according to rental consultant and training organisation RusRental.

The consultant said the number of rental companies in the country is growing rapidly – there are now 4000 companies in its rental directory compared to 1000 in 2010 – and that rental companies had benefited from major infrastructure projects such as preparations for the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Trends in the market include increased activity in the small tools and equipment sector and a move towards cooperation and alliances between small and medium sized rental companies.

“As a result of the on-going market changes, small- and medium-sized Russian rental companies have started creating cooperative business unions to be able to take part in large construction projects and to become more competitive”, said the consultant.

“As an example, at the end of 2013 a number of Russian rental companies from various regions of Russia formed the Rentarus Russian rental alliance organisation (www.rentarus.ru).”
