Russia's power rental market set for growth

29 April 2014

The Russian power rental market was worth around 2.2 billion Rubles (€44.5 million) in 2013 and is expected to grow by 10-12% this year, according to a market study by Russian consultancy RusRental.

The Russian Power Rental Market report said the market comprises more than 200 companies with a total rental fleet of around 4500 gensets. These companies range from large Federal corporations owning hundreds of generators to small private rental firms with less than five sets in their fleets.

The main driver for power rentals remains Russia’s construction market, said RusRental.

The most popular genset brands in Russia are SDMO, FG Wilson, Atlas Copco, GEKO, Cummins and Caterpillar, with Japanese Airman and Denyo models also in the market. Among Chinese brands offered for rent in Russia the most popular is Kipor generators.

RusRental said the market was developing rapidly; “As for forecasts for 2014-2015, market experts expect that the structure of power rental fleets will change towards modern and mainly foreign-made models which meet the needs and requirements of modern construction technologies.”

The report also forecasts that there will be more demand for larger sets in the >750 kV sizes, with that market currently under-developed.
