RSC Equipment Rental is creating an annual Freek Nijdam Award for its employees in memory of its former chief executive officer who recently passed away.

The award will recognise RSC employees "for outstanding creative thinking and determined problem solving to improve customer service, performance and growth in all areas of the business."

"There are many people that together with me will remember Freek with affection and for the professional guidance which he provided not only to RSC but the entire rental industry," said Erik Olsson, president and chief executive officer of RSC.

"Freek focused the organisation on being the best at the rental activity and how the leverage of many small changes on a local level can have a very big impact on the total company performance. For this we owe him significant gratitude and this annual award will be a reminder of all his achievements."

Candidates will be measured on the implementation of their innovative solutions, including the future impact on RSC, with winners receiving a commemorative plaque and a $10000 prize.

Mr Nijdam worked for Atlas Copco for 38 years and was CEO of RSC from 2002 until 2004, when it was owned by RSC.
