Renta Group is to create an on-site rental depot at the Viscaria copper mine in Kiruna, Sweden under an agreement with mining company Viscaria.

The depot will support Viscaria’s employees and its contractors during the construction phase for the mine and is expected to last for approximately two years. The mine was originally closed in 1997 but was acquired by Viscaria in 2019 and is expected to be in full production by 2029.

The on-site depot will include a retail outlet and facilities for servicing and maintenance equipment, as well as renting construction machinery, MEWPs, fall-protection systems, temporary barriers and speed-monitoring equipment.

The agreement also covers temporary buildings for offices and changing facilities.

Fredrik Rova, project manager for Site Services at Viscaria, said; “The establishment of Renta’s on-site depot is an important step in creating an efficient and well-functioning construction environment.

“Having machinery, equipment and services directly on site is essential to maintaining high quality standards and strong time margins in a project of this scale. We look forward to close and productive collaboration.”

Andreas Rosenius, key account manager Industry and Projects at Renta, added; “We are very pleased with the trust we have been given to support Viscaria during this expansive development phase.

“By establishing a full-service depot on site, we can contribute flexibility, fast service and high operational reliability – everything required to ensure the project progresses smoothly and safely.”

The mining company said exploration drillings indicate that the mine contains 108 million tonnes of copper-bearing rock and is projected to produce approximately 26,000 tons of copper per year at full production.
