Range of updates for OverWatch 9 crush protection
08 September 2025
EQSS has released the lastest version of its entrapment protection device for scissor lifts. OverWatch 9 is a software update that offers a range of new features and improvements to enhance the operator experience.

With more than 20,000 OverWatch devices in operation worldwide, the latest update is driven by feedback from equipment operators and safety officers.
The updates include greater freedom of movement, providing increased flexibility when driving, enabling the operator to freely look around to identify hazards.
The operator can move in and out of the device’s infrared light beam that detects when the operator is in a dangerous position. The feature reduces cutout when looking behind or moving out of the beam when in drive mode. The machine will only stop when there is a genuine risk of entrapment.
To quickly alert the worksite in case of an incident, OverWatch 9 also features a prone operator alarm that escalates in frequency during a cutout until the operator moves and releases the controls.
Safety enabled

The updates also allow safe movements of the scissor lift to be enabled, namely lower and reverse functions, after a cutout, allowing the operator to move themselves away from a risk.
There is also an audible software version announcements. On start-up of the machine, when the e-stop is released, OverWatch 9 will be announced via an audio cue, allowing quick identification of the software version installed.
OverWatch 9 is active during all machine operations, including lift, drive and pedestrian control, ensuring continuous operator protection when elevating and manoeuvring the lift.
This latest version was developed through a rigorous risk assessment to ensure the safety of the operator. The system will stop the machine if it identifies the operator has moved into a potential entrapment situation, and improved accuracy of the system reduces false triggering and allows operators to move at the platform controls to view objects and hazards in the path while driving the machine.
OverWatch 9 is now available for download for current customers and can be installed on all existing OverWatch systems. The update can be completed using a mobile device in under five minutes.
EQSS will present OverWatch 9 at the UK’s Verikal Days, taking place this week, 10-11, September at the Newark Showground.
