Rental companies Ramirent and Zeppelin said they had successfully finalised a joint venture to bid for work on the cross-border Fehmarnbelt tunnel construction project.
The companies first outlined their bid to support construction of the world’s longest immersed tunnel last summer.
Linking the Danish and German coast, the €6.2 billion Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link is planned to stretch 18 km, consisting of a four-lane motorway and a double-track rail line. Construction is scheduled to start this summer, with completion aimed for 2021.
The companies said their joint venture – Fehmarnbelt Solution Services – would be able to offer a 24/7 service on site with rental depots on the Danish and German side.
The companies said that, typically, the potential equipment rental volume shared among the rental companies servicing the project amounted to 1% to 3% of the total construction value.
Ramirent president and CEO Magnus Rosén said, “We are pleased to have received the approval from the competition authorities for the joint venture together with Zeppelin Rental.
"Our joint venture is well-positioned to be selected as rental supplier for the project and is ready to commence activities to offer our services to the different companies working on the tunnel construction project.”
And Wolfgang Hahnenberg, chairman of Zeppelin Rental, said, “We appreciate being partners with Ramirent in this project and are looking forward to a successful relationship. Together we offer customised one-stop-solutions for all construction phases, from site installation to inspection and approval.
“We support the involved companies with long-time experience in managing large-scale projects and provide the framework for safely and efficiently operating the construction site.”
They said the range of services offered would include modular space, equipment rental services, maintenance and repair, logistic and safety management and consulting, temporary infrastructure, energy and climate solutions, facility management services, access control, waste management as well as training.
