Caterpillar partnership to develop on-site energy solutions for data centres

Under the agreement, Caterpillar will provide power generation technologies, including natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines from Caterpillar and its subsidiary Solar Turbines,

Meanwhile, Vertiv, which specialises in critical infrastructure for digital systems, will supply modular power distribution and cooling systems.

The companies said the collaboration is intended to address growing demand for integrated energy systems that support reliable, scalable data-centre operations, particularly as AI-related workloads drive higher power and cooling requirements.

The joint offering will be based on pre-designed, interoperability-tested architectures that aim to shorten design cycles and accelerate installation.

According to the announcement, customers will also be able to lower PUE through end-to-end optimisation of power, cooling, distribution and dynamic load management.

Global lifecycle support will be provided through both companies’ service networks.

“As AI-driven workloads continue to accelerate, the demand for robust and scalable power infrastructure and cooling is becoming increasingly critical,” said Jason Kaiser, group president of Caterpillar Power & Energy.

“Our collaboration with Vertiv will enable us to deliver integrated, on-site energy solutions that lower PUE and meet customers’ evolving needs.”
