German manufacturer PB Lifttechnik GmbH has added a 17.8 m working height electric rough terrain scissor to its range. Launched at APEX, the machine uses the same self-levelling wheel design as on the 15 m model shown at Bauma in 2010.

The S17519E - which is also available in a diesel version - has self-levelling axles rather than outriggers, which Arne Dirckinck-Holmfeld, PB's sales director, said "saves time and saves money."

The platform automatically levels on sloped ground and can be driven at full height, even on slopes, as long as the slope remains constant. The front axle uses an oscillating design that provides a 250 mm levelling difference, while the rear axle comprises two independently levelled wheels, offering 380 mm of differential height.

Mr Dirckinck-Holmfeld told Access International that the levelling system is a bit more expensive than a conventional RT scissor with outriggers, but offers benefits in speed and ease of operation.

The 575 Ahr battery pack will allow for a full day's work, he said, and buyers can also opt for a 700 Ahr pack. The scissor weighs 8.9 t and has a 6.2 m long deck (including 2.25 m hydraulic extension). Deck capacity is 500 kg. The machine is 4.2 m long and has a 2.54 m transport height.

Mr Dirckinck-Holmfeld said that a 23 m version was also planned, but that will not be available before next year.
