Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) has launched a new 2,7 tonne mini excavator, the ZX27-3. The company says its new addition has been designed with transportability, comfort and safety in mind.

Hitachi compact equipment product sales manager for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Joep van den Maagdenberg said, "The ZX27-3 is a highly versatile machine and is suitable for a broad range of applications, including utilities and general groundwork. Like all Zaxis minis, it is easy to operate and this model is the largest Hitachi that can be transported by trailer under a normal EU driving license."

Hitachi describes the machine's cab as "spacious" and it includes a suspension seat with adjustable backrest. Controls are fingertip, multi-function, short-stroke levers designed to help reduce operator fatigue. The changeover switch has been moved to the blade lever, so that the operator can check its position without disrupting operation. The foot pedals meanwhile can be folded away when not in use.

Safety features include a cab top guard designed to comply with worldwide safety standards. There is also an auxiliary power outlet on the outside of the machine as a convenient source for working in poor light or at night. Other features include a neutral engine start system, which helps to avoid accidental movement.

Power comes from a 19,1 kW Kubota engine, and the ZX27-3 can be fitted with a 0,04 to 0,1 m3 bucket.
