Neville Kennard, one of the best known figures in Australia's rental business, passed away on Sunday 3 June, IRN regrets to announce.

Mr Kennard was a driving force - along with his brother Andy - in the growth of the Kennards Hire and Kennards Self Storage businesses in Australia.

Neville joined his father's business in 1956 aged 19 and took over from his father in 1964. He and his brother Andy jointly ran the business between 1965 and 1991 before Neville left Kennard Hire to focus on the Kennards Self Storage (KSS) business. He remained managing director of KSS until 1995.

"Neville was a well known and highly respected member of our industry and our condolences and sympathy go out to his family", said Phil Newby, chief executive officer of the Hire & Rental Industry Association (HRIA) of Australia.

There will be a funeral for family and friends on Friday 8 June at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium, North Ryde, with a celebration of his life following at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in Kirribilli from 2.00 pm.
