UK-based Nationwide Platforms has signed a new five-year contract with Bureau Veritas to conduct its LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lift Equipment) inspections.

With a fleet of more than 13,500 machines from a network of 32 depots, Nationwide carries out up to 30,000 LOLER checks every year to ensure each machine is operating to the highest safety standards and remains available for clients to use.

The contract extension will see Bureau Veritas, a leader in safety inspections and certifications, provide impartial statutory inspections on the majority of the equipment across Nationwide’s portfolio in the UK and France.

Ken Smith, chief executive for Bureau Veritas UK said, “Continuing our partnership with Nationwide Platforms for an additional five years, is a strong demonstration of how our effective programme of inspections ensures safety and confidence.

“Drawing on the expertise of our specialist teams, our independent safety assessments conducted twice a year will help to ensure that equipment is safe and turned around efficiently for Nationwide’s clients to use – which remains an important consideration in a construction sector that is rapidly growing. As we move into a third renewal contract, it is clear that Nationwide Platforms and Bureau Veritas are aligned in our values and share the vision that safety is paramount for both our people and our clients.”

In addition to extending the relationship with Bureau Veritas, Nationwide Platforms is also launching a new digital pre-use check system. Each machine will feature a QR sticker that when scanned, takes users to a digital pre-use checklist and allows them to input status information. Once the information is captured, a time and date stamp of the inspection is logged. A digital copy of the inspection can then be sent to the person of your choice, ensuring easy record keeping.

Paul Rankin, chief operating officer, Nationwide Platforms added, “As a business with safety at our core, it’s vital that these checks are being carried out independently and we’re not marking our own homework. Bureau Veritas has a large roster of qualified and experienced inspectors who conduct detailed assessments, including on-site visits. With inspections on all machines carried out twice a year and a robust system for pre-use checks, customers can have confidence in the safety of our machines.”
