Morillo powers Spanish festivals

Spanish temporary energy specialist Morillo Energy Rent has utilised energy storage systems from Atas Copco to provide low-emission power to several festivals in its native country.

The Barcelona-headquartered company utilised the Atlas Copco ZBC 250-575 energy storage systems at Primavera Sound, the Granca Live Fest and the Monegros Desert Festival last year.

Equipped with Lithium-ion (Li-on) batteries, the units were set up as battery-based hybrid solutions by connecting them to energy-efficient Stage V compliant power generators.

The company, which is the first to introduce the use of energy storage systems in the event industry in Spain, said the ZBC 250-575 energy storage system reduces daily fuel consumption by up to 90% when compared with an oversized generator working as a standalone solution.

According to Atlas Copco, the units also improve productivity by up to 50%, keep the solution’s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to a minimum and extend the lifespan of a generator by up to 15%.

The units were coupled with six low-consumption power generators as well as nine other energy storage systems at the Primavera Sound festival, enabling it to reduce carbon footprint by 27 tonnes and become the first festival in Europe to cut fuel consumption in half year on year.

Meanwhile, Granca Live Fest utilised two Atlas Copco ZBC 250-575 energy storage systems working in hybrid mode with energy-efficient Stage V power generators, while the Monegros Desert Festival reduced emissions of polluting particles by up to 90% and fuel consumption by up to 20% thanks to the systems.
