New UK rental company Star Platforms has appointed Richard Miller as its joint managing director.

Miller has 24 years experience in the powered access industry starting with Instant Zip–Up in 1991. He founded Panther Work Platforms in 1998 and held the position of managing director up to the sale of the business in 2006 to Lavendon Group.

He held various roles at Lavendon including managing director of Panther within the UK business, sales and marketing director of Nationwide Platforms and was a member of its UK Executive Board until leaving the company in October 2013 for personal reasons.

Miller was also the founder of Access Link. Following a sabbatical from the powered access industry he has returned to join the old Panther management team of Steve Simmons, joint managing director, and Bryan Freeman, sales director, at Star Platforms.

Mr Simmons commented, “It’s great to welcome Richard’s complementary skills and wealth of experience to the company to support the growth strategy of Star Platforms."

Mr Miller added, “After a very successful and enjoyable time with Lavendon I needed some time out to recharge my batteries and during this time I realised I missed the industry I enjoy so much.

"Having considered several offers available to me I feel ready for a new challenge, and have decided on a return with a relatively new company where the business and its management team share the same customer-led values as myself. Star Platforms ticks that box and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity this provides me.”
