MEC moves into cranes and presents prototype boom lift

MEC is presenting a range of new equipment at ConExpo, including the CD-9T carry-deck crane, representing the company’s move into the crane sector, a prototype of the MAX 46-RJ Hybrid telescopic boom lift, the MME30 vertical mast lift, and the recently announced Plus (+) slab electric scissor lift upgrades.

As a 46ft hybrid straight boom, the new Max 46-RJ Hybrid telescopic boom lift prototype is an extension of the Max boom line, which debuted with the 135-RJ and 66-RJ Diesel telescopic booms in 2025. The 46-RJ Hybrid is designed around operator efficiency and ergonomics, and combines optimal reach with better body positioning at the controls and high durability for day-to-day rental use.

Key features include a 6ft (18m) high-capacity rotating jib with a 135° vertical and 120° horizontal range to help operators dial in work position at reach with fewer chassis moves, a footswitch-free layout that supports better stance and visibility while operating, and a more robust platform built to hold up in challenging high-turn rental environments, said the company. 

“Our Max boom lift line offers operators a demonstrably superior experience by incorporating deluxe features like rotating jibs, multiple steering modes and high capacity as standard,” said David Baxter, VP of Product Management at MEC. “With the 46-RJ Hybrid concept, we’re showing how we can bring high-performance capabilities into a core class. When operators can reach the work faster, position with fewer moves, and stay comfortable doing it, that’s what drives brand preference and ultimately utilization.”

The MEC product team is seeking feedback on the prototype in the booth as part of its plans for growing the Max boom line, which will also be featured on the stand.

New vertical lift on show

The new MME30 electric vertical mast lift is on show too, and is built for indoor work where crews need more height in constrained spaces. With an industry-leading 36ft indoor working height and compact stowed dimensions of 32.5in (0.83m) overall width and 78.5in height, it will pass through a standard single doorway. According to MEC, the MME30 helps crews reach higher without stepping up to a larger, more complex machine.

Its ability for operators to drive fully elevated reduces repeated up/down cycles to get to work faster completing punch lists, maintenance runs, and overhead installs. Durability and indoor jobsite protection are central to the design, with rugged construction, maintenance-friendly power, and MEC’s patented Leak Containment System to help protect finished indoor environments.

The MME30 features direct-electric PMSR AC motors for longer operation between charges and AGM maintenance-free batteries, as well as 5-in. wide tires to minimize ground pressure on sensitive floors.

MEC is marking its entry into the crane category with the 9 ton CD-9T diesel carry-deck crane, designed to address long-standing pain points in a segment that has seen limited change for decades.

The CD-9T’s innovative design improves sightlines for operators with a low-profile design that provides 360° visibility, provides a more workable space in its comfort cab, and offers smoother positioning and placement control, while giving rental fleets a widely requested alternative in the 8-10 ton class, says the company. 

Plus scissor lift line 

Also at ConExpo, MEC will feature its recently introduced Plus (+) slab electric scissor lift line, which offers fewer overload interruptions with greater platform capacities, more productive time per charge, and improved positioning capabilities.

The Plus updates are designed to keep crews working efficiently while maximizing rental fleet utilisation. In addition to the Micro 19-XD+, 26-XD+, 3232+, and 4555+ that will be on display at the booth, MEC will be showing a new prototype model, the 4035+ - a 40ft drive-at-full height electric scissor that is less than 3ftwide

In addition MEC will feature key models across its boom and scissor lift lineup, including the Max 135-RJ, the Max 66-RJ with Perkins engine, and the Dual-Reach 85-J boom lifts, as well as the Micro 2032 and 3084RT Speed Level scissor lifts, plus the MME25 mast lift and patented features, such as the Xtra-Deck.
