Manitou debuts new and updated telehandlers to NA market

Manitou Americas, one of the few rotating telehandler manufacturers who have a presence in the North American market, has debuted its completely updated MRT Series. The company also has announced a brand new line of MT Series Premier telehandlers for the North American market, as well.

The updated MRT Series includes the MRT 1840 Easy 360-degree, MRT 2150 Privilege Plus and MRT 2540 Privilege Plus. The MRT Series is designed to meet the needs of rental companies and contractors in construction applications with space constraints.

The MRT 1840 Easy 360 is powered by a 101 hp (74.5 kW) Perkins Interim Tier IV-certified turbocharged engine and the MRT 2150 Privilege Plus and MRT 2540 Privilege Plus are powered by 150 hp (110 kW) Mercedes-Benz EPA Tier III turbocharged engines. The engine automatically adapts itself to the needs of the transmission system. This provides significant fuel consumption reductions by matching engine output to the machine’s operation, Manitou said. The two-speed hydrostatic transmission in all models provides power and control for precise placement of the machine. The MRT Series models feature 4-wheel drive and oscillating rear axles.

With a lift height of 80 feet and 8.5 inches (24.6 m) on the MRT 2540 Privilege Plus, operators can move materials to high buildings and structures, elevate work platforms and carry out service and maintenance work for the mining, oil and gas industries. Lift capacities are 11,000 pounds (5,000 kg) on the MRT 2150 Privilege Plus and 8,800 pounds (4,400 kg) on the MRT 1840 Easy 360 and MRT 2540 Privilege Plus models.

The new E-RECO – Automatic Attachment Recognition – system comes standard on the MRT Series. The system automatically senses the attachment when correctly installed and assigns the correct load chart and safe operation zones. This allows the operator to know the lift capacities of the attachments he/she is using around the jobsite.

Front and rear stabilizers come standard on the MRT Series. A telescopic scissor design on the Privilege Plus models enables the legs to be partially deployed when obstacles are present or space is limited. When the stabilizers and pads are retracted, they are integrated into the machine’s body. There is no loss of ground clearance or addition to machine width, Manitou said. An adaptable calculator adjusts the load chart and lifting zones based on the position of the stabilizers.

For increased safety, an oscillating axle lock-out system engages when the machine is standing on its wheels and the upper structure is rotated by more than 15 degrees. This allows work to be completed with a larger area of stability for the machine.

A spacious, ergonomic cab is equipped with two electro-hydraulic joysticks that control boom extension, turret swing, accessories, load lifting and fork tilting. The two joysticks allow simultaneous control of all machine movements. The armrests, steering wheel and seat are fully adjustable. An optional incline seat on the Privilege Plus models reclines the seat up to 13 degrees for operator comfort as the boom rises. Air conditioning and a full light package, with work lights, road lights and beacon, are all standard equipment.

All machine information is incorporated into an alphanumeric LCD control display that monitors axle alignment, steering selection, load levels, working zone limits, stabilizer mode and more. Hydraulic-function speed memory allows an operator to store maximum movement speeds of the boom lift, extend, fork tilt, turret rotation, and auxiliary hydraulic function. This allows the operation of the machine to be tailored to the working conditions and application.

The optional remote control feature allows the MRT Series Telescopic Handlers to be controlled from a distance for additional versatility. For additional operator visibility, the optional video camera view allows visibility to areas of the machine that are difficult to view. The engine positioned to the side of the chassis allows for easy access from three sides. The air filter and battery are accessible through a hood at the rear of the chassis. External hydraulic hoses are positioned on the outside of the boom for quick maintenance access. Periodic maintenance and diagnosis display allows an operator to easily monitor machine maintenance.

“The MRT Series Rotating Telescopic Handlers provide a unique solution to congested, urban jobsites where traditional telescopic handler use is difficult,” said Steve Kiskunas, Manitou Americas Telescopic Handler Product Manager. “With the telehandler, winch, and platform modes, the MRT Series provide exceptional versatility to customers. One machine can complete the work of many. With the new E-RECO attachment recognition system and hydraulic speed memory features, operation by multiple users is easy.”

Manitou also introduced its MT Series Premiere telescopic handlers to the North American market recently. Interim Tier IV-certified models MT1440, MT 1840, MT 1840 A and MT 1840 H make up the product line.

Rated lift capacities of 9,000 pounds (4082 kg) on all models allow operators to lift, transport and place large loads with ease, Manitou said. Lift heights of 44 feet, 4 inches (13.53 m) on the MT 1440 and 57 feet, 7 inches (17.55 m) on the MT 1840, MT 1840 A and MT 1840 H “make aerial handling and material placement easy.” Frame leveling and front stabilizers come standard on all models. The stabilizers increase lift capacity on the MT 1840 from 4,000 pounds (1814 kg) to 5,000 pounds (2268 kg) at maximum lift height and from 800 pounds (363 kg) to 1,900 pounds (862 kg) at maximum forward reach.

The MT 1840 A provides work platform capability. The MT 1840 A comes standard with a Load Moment Indicator (LMI) that provides a forward tipping notification to the operator. Electrical sensors and power up to the boom tip integrate with sensors on the work platform to limit the possibility of overloading the platform. The MT 1840 A also comes standard with a lockout system that increases the area of stability for the machine equipped with a work platform.

Equipped with a 102 hp (75 kW) Perkins Interim Tier IV-certified diesel engine that delivers 310 foot/pounds (420 Nm) of torque, the MT Series Premiere telescopic handlers “are prepared to tackle virtually any job.” The MT 1440, MT 1840 and MT 1840 A are equipped with a Powershuttle transmission with a 4-speed gearbox. The MT 1840 H comes equipped with a hydrostatic transmission with an inching pedal for additional controllability of ground and engine speed. All models allow the operator to use 4-wheel steering, 2-wheel steering and crab steering when needed.

The MT Series Premiere telescopic handlers offer full size performance in a compact package. With an overall height of 8 feet, 1 inch (2.46 m) and overall width of 7 feet, 9 inches (2.36 m) on the MT 1440, the machines “come ready to work on even the most cramped jobsites.”

The view from the ROPS/FOPS canopy is a full 360 degrees due to the low mounted telescopic boom. An enclosed cab comes standard with a door, air conditioning and a heater/defroster for use in areas where operators need protection from the weather. Adjustable seat and steering wheel come standard on all models for superior comfort and ergonomics. The standard Joystick Switch & Move (JSM) joystick provides machine boom control, attachment function control and drive selection in one control. Boom lights, work lights and road lights are standard equipment.
