Battery energy storage systems (BESS) specialist Lifos has introduced its latest model, Fort.

Described as ‘a new hybrid and renewable energy system’, Lifos Fort is intended to reduce the cost of delivering energy by either recharging at off-peak times or using photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to recharge the system.

The units are designed with rental applications in mind, and the company recently showed the units at the UK’s Executive Hire Show.

The units can also charge from a standard diesel gen set, but while the generator is operating at peak efficiency or when local noise regulations permit operation.

The Fort is offered in three storage capacities: 12, 23 and 35 kWh. Further options will be introduced, according to the UK-based company. All use lithium-ion phosphate battery cells.

The units include 18 solar panels which can deliver a maximum 3.4 kW. The PV panels can be mounted on a stand or there is an optional container roof-mounting kit.

Fort units are fitted with the LiQ battery management system. This support remote control of the unit and can also display operational data, including diesel usage, CO2 savings and power generation.

Lifos offers Fort units with a five-year warranty. In addition, the company has a ‘7-year Switch’ programme which allows replacement of the battery after that period.

Adrian Williams, CEO of Lifos, commented: “We are very excited about the potential of these new products. The environmental and operational benefits, and the five-year warranty have great appeal, but I think the biggest interest from the industry will be focused on the financial upsides and lifetime cost savings associated with new Fort range.

“A major component of this is our new-life, battery cell replacement programme. It will enable hire companies to re-think how they price and finance our products. It will mean a faster deployment of batteries across the industry, helping to reduce diesel usage, reduce carbon and reduce costs.”
