JLG up 20.7% in Q3 driven by North American demand

Oshkosh Corp’s access equipment division, JLG Industries, reported a 20.7% increase in sales to US$1.34 billion for the third quarter of the year on the back of higher volumes and prices in North America. Operating profit at the division increased 23.5% to $145.7 million.

The company has lowered its outlook for the full year because of lower fire truck sales and NGDV (Next Generation Delivery Vehicle) production, although that was offset in part by higher sales from the access business.

“Our results reflected challenges arising from our transformation of fire truck production”, said John Pfeifer, president and CEO of Oshkosh.

“Improvements in throughput are taking longer than we previously expected, and we have identified the primary factors that affected production.”

Pfeifer said the company had delivered a “solid performance” in the access business, “reflecting strong customer demand and improved execution.”

The order backlog at the access segment was up 268% year-on-year at $2.7 billion.
