JLG to show ClearSky innovations at APEX

New features for JLG’s ClearSky Smart Flee IoT platform coming soon to the European market are set to be presented at APEX.

Evolving traditional telematics into a two-way communication and fleet management system that improves connectivity, visibility and efficiency across modern job sites, the latest features will be promoted at the APEX show in Maastricht, 2 to 4 June.

One of them, Automatic Site Networks shifts fleet management from manual to automated processes. Leveraging Bluetooth mesh technology, this feature allows machines to automatically connect to one another on a job site or rental yard, creating a dynamic, real-time network without the need for manual geofencing.

By eliminating manual setup and providing reliable connectivity in challenging environments, another ClearSky feature Automatic Site Networks is designed to improve efficiency, enhance fleet visibility, and provide a consistent tracking solution at scale.

In addition, the new Digital Analyzer Reader feature brings diagnostic capabilities to mobile devices, eliminating the need for handheld analyzers and cords. Users can check machine status, set parameters and retrieve data directly on iOS or Android.

Future additions 

JLG’s new Digital Access Control feature allows fleet owners and managers to restrict or enable machine operation using the ClearSky Smart Fleet mobile app — eliminating the need for manual keypad entry.

Owners will now be able to invoke one of three machine states:

• Restricted (lockout): no operation permitted
• Creep mode or creep + transport mode: limited-speed functionality for specific job site needs
• Unrestricted: full machine capability enabled

By moving access control into the app, JLG is laying the groundwork for future digital expansions, such as role-based permissions and job site-level access profiles, with no additional keypad required.

When the app is updated, Digital Access Control works across any ClearSky Smart-Fleet-equipped asset with an active subscription.

This evolution from keypad to cloud-connected control reflects JLG’s broader strategy: Transitioning from simply connecting machines to connecting job sites.

Addressing one of the most common challenges on multi-story construction projects, Elevation-Based Localization allows users to pinpoint equipment not just by location but by elevation, with the aim of eliminating inefficiencies in complex urban or commercial job sites.

Lastly, Over-the-Air (OTA) Machine Software Updates digitize what was once a time-intensive, manual task. A single technician can connect to and update groups of machines simultaneously.

The updates take less than 30 minutes per unit — cutting time by more than 50% and all settings are restored automatically from beacon memory.

“These features provide better connectivity, smart diagnostics, precise equipment tracking and streamlined updates, making it easier for fleet managers and technicians to maximize uptime, optimize resources and keep projects moving efficiently,” said the company.
