JCB launches powerful new machines

UK-based manufacturer JCB has showcased a range of machines at the CTT/Conexpo show in Moscow, Russia, including new launches that specifically target the Russia/CIS market as well as developing countries in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

The company unveiled its most powerful backhoe loader to date - the all-wheel steer 5CX - which is powered by a 120hp (88kW) Tier 2 JCB Dieselmax engine and boasts a 1.3m² shovel as standard.

JCB's TorqueLock transmissions - which is fitted as standard - is said to produce fuel consumption savings of up to 25% compared to standard transmissions.

Tim Burnhope, JCB's chief innovation and growth officer, said, "The 5CX has been designed as a flagship model for those markets that demand ultimate digging and loading performance.

"Russia in particular has a rapidly developing backhoe loader market and our customers there need a higher horsepower model, capable of faster travel times, quicker loading cycles and increased efficiency. With the 5CX, JCB is once again taking the lead in the backhoe loader sector, delivering the right machine to meet and exceed our customers' expectations."

Largest wheeled loader

JCB also launched its biggest ever wheeled loader at the show - the range topping 467, which has a 4m³ capacity bucket as standard. Key markets for the 24 tonne machine - which is powered by a 290hp (216kW) Cummins QSB Stage IIIA/Tier 3 engine - include the Middle East, Russia/CIS, Latin America, Turkey, Africa and Australia.

The machine is available with a new Driveline Efficiency Package, complete with 5-speed transmission. This is said to offer fuel savings of up to 20% and productivity gains of up to 40% compared with the standard JCB 467 with 4-speed transmission. JCB also claims that the 467 is 30% more productive than the nearest competitive model.

David Hill, JCB regional director for Russia and CIS, said the region represented a very important market for the company, where it has 80 dealers in Russia alone, for instance.

"Power generation sales in the region were up 90% last year. In backhoe loaders and telescopic handlers, we are no. 1 in Russia."

Mr Burnhope added that JCB currently has no plans to manufacture in Russia, but it would, "Continue to explore the opportunities."
