Meck Lock System's managing director, Dario Bartesaghi, shows some of the anti-theft products that have been fitted to over 160000 items of equipment since the Italian company was founded in 1987. Meck Lock makes a mechanical anti-theft device that disables pneumatic or hydraulic circuits in a machine and requires the use of an unduplicable key. The company developed the product for Italian commercial vehicles but since 1989 has also been supplying the construction equipment sector worldwide. Rental companies as varied as Venpa in Italy, One Call in the UK and Nishio Rent All in Japan are among those using the system. It is possible to retrofit the system for around €600-700, although costs fall by half if it is factory-fitted.
