Instagrid gets UK railways approval for GO power unit

Portable battery power specialist Instagrid has received approvals from Network Rail for the GO RAIL version of its 110V GO power unit in the UK.

GO RAIL was approved by Network Rail in December 2025 following a review and testing process. The power unit has been added to Network Rail’s Controlled Catalogue (PADS catalogue) making it easier for companies and engineers to specify it.

The new version is very similar to the standard GO, but has a yellow design and new handles for easy handling by two people.

The unit offers peak power of 18kW and 2.1 kWh capacity and can power equipment including hand tools, pumps, lighting and welding equipment.

It has a distinctive yellow casing, weighs 21kg, and can operate in temperatures from -20°C to +40°C.

An optional GO RAIL LINK system allows up to three units to be connected for extended capacity and runtimes.

Instagrid already has thousands of its units working in the UK since its launch in the country in 2023. The GO RAIL model means it can also be used on the UK’s extensive rail network, comprising 30,000 miles of track and more than 20,000 bridges.

Founded in 2018 by Sebastian Berning and Andreas Sedlmayr, Instagrid is headquartered in Ludwigsburg, Germany, and now employs 150 employees in 30 countries.

The 230V Instagrid ONE was launched in 2021 and over 45,000 units have been sold. Instagrid GO is available in two versions: 110V for the UK construction market and 120V for North American. It was launched in late 2024 to match the specific requirements of these markets.
