HSS Hire signs up to erento online rental site

HSS Hire has signed up to the online rental website, erento, the first major UK rental company to do so since erento’s launch in the UK in February this year.
The entire HSS product range and all 300 of its locations are now entered on the erento website. Erento, a German online rental firm which already has an online rental ‘marketplace’ site operating in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, gives customers the opportunity to search for a wide range of products supplied by rental companies that subscribe to the service.
HSS, and all rental companies using the site, pay a monthly fee related to the number of products and rental depots listed – for example, £75 per month for an unlimited number of products at a single depot. In addition there is a 4.5% commission on any rental transaction that is completed via the site.
Customers enter their details on the site and then select the product, price and location that suits them. The site then gives the customer the contact details for the rental supplier and at the same time sends the customer’s contact details to the rental company. It is then up to the customer and rental company to conclude the transaction, independent of erento.
Owen Whitehead, head of direct marketing and online at HSS, said; “It is easy to see why erento has had so much success in Continental Europe. It is very cost effective, simple to use and immediately brings customers together with the individual items that are closest to them.
"As potential customers increasingly rely on search engines to direct them to the most appropriate site, marketplaces are fast becoming a vital element of a multi channel strategy.”
Erento’s director of international operations, Volker Wohlfarth, said; “HSS was immediately able to understand the impact our online marketplace can have in driving customer enquiries and we’re delighted to be announcing an agreement with one of the industry’s leaders so soon.”
Mr Wohlfarth told IRN that erento – which has negotiated a 25% discount for Hire Association Europe (HAE) members - would concentrate on making a success of its current territories in Europe before expanding into other European countries such as France or the Netherlands, or the US.
He said the website provided large rental companies with an additional sales channel, and offers a web presence for small rental companies who do not have the resources to create and manage their own websites.
The erento site in Germany gets 58000 visits a day and some 4500 rental enquiries a day are generated by the website’s European operations, which has 360000 active customers. Approximately 80% of the tool and equipment rental referrals are from businesses looking to rent equipment.
